Green Lantern Movie Projection Ring, $7.99, Newbury Comics (available on Amazon)
The Boyfriend Wonder got me this Green Lantern power ring that projects the Green Lantern symbol through the center of the ring. Although it can allegedly project the symbol up to 50 feet in the dark, the tiny light barely projected the symbol strong enough to be captured on camera in a pitch-black room. Regardless, it’s a unique take on the power ring that sets itself apart in both design and function from the light-up Lantern Corps rings released by DC Direct last year. Plus, while it may not be able to project giant green sucker-punching fists per se (let alone, a notably bright Lantern symbol), I reckon that you could pack a pretty hefty punch with this giant Lantern ring in tow.
An important thing to note about this ring is that unlike the DC Direct rings, this ring is clearly intended for slightly smaller ring sizes, and even comes with a silicone spacer to tighten the ring for a better fit for even smaller fingers. The silver parts of the ring are painted textured plastic made to look like forged metal (though it resembles leopard print at times), which I’m considering painting over with green or silver paint. Although the ring design may be gaudy and obtrusive to some (as the top of the ring protrudes an inch from the base of my fingers), the size and shape of the ring is rather reminiscent of chunky mod Lucite jewelry, which is essentially why I adore this ring so much.
