stephbuscema:

A Batgirl painting I reworked last night.

Stephanie Buscema reworked the Beat Girl Babs redesign that I posted a couple weeks ago, and somehow managed to make Babs even cuter! The lace-up boots in the original painting were switched out for a pair of yellow boots with bow detailing (hello, dream boots!), and the entire outfit is trimmed with an adorable scalloped hem.
On a side note, I really need that green Bat-argyle wallpaper in my bedroom.

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 02.27.12
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Tank Girl, Rufio, Magdalena, B.A. Baracus/Mr. T (above), and more!

Beat Girl Babs, by Stephanie Buscema.
This Barbara Gordon piece features a few of my favorite fashion staples: a cute dress, a peter pan collared capelet, my preferred incarnation of the Bat-symbol, a patent yellow belt, lace-up boots, and a matching record player (of course!). Basically, the perfect ensemble for Batusi-ing the night away~
P.S. For those of you who are attending Boston Comic Con in April, be sure to swing by Stephanie Buscema’s table, where she will have prints of this piece (and a selection of other beautiful artwork) for sale!

What A Girl Wants Top, $15.80, Forever 21

I’m not really fond of most slogans featured on superheroes shirts for women, but I love how this particular incarnation of Supergirl’s costume was chosen for this design.

mikemaihack:

A little 6-panel SUPERGIRL/BATGIRL comic. For fun. And because I love the characters. And Because Nate Cosby wouldn’t stop bugging me until I drew one.You can read waaaay too much thinking into this HERE.

Mike Maihack created this fantastic 6-panel comic that perfectly sums up Supergirl’s collection of iconic costumes over the years. I really loved his commentary on Kara’s ever-changing style during the seventies in particular:

“I really love how in the seventies Kara would change outfits almost every issue. It just makes sense in some odd teenaged superheroie kinda way. I grew up with two younger sisters that had more shoes in their closet than I had shirts. One look is not enough. And I think because of how iconic the colors and symbolization of Supergirl are (and because she’s already had so many different looks anyhow) she’s one of the few characters that could get always with it on a monthly title. Okay, maybe the logistics don’t make sense. Maybe on top of the ability to fly and pummel bad guys into the earth, the yellow sun also made Kara an excellent seamstress. Or Martha Kent showed her how. Or Martha Kent makes them FOR her. Whatever the reason, I would bring that back. And I think it says a lot about her personality too.” [link]

Conclusively, DC Comics needs to hire Mike Maihack to launch a SUPERGIRL/BATGIRL series, f’realzies. Get on it, people.

Batgirl Nail Set, $8, Hot Topic
Although I love black and gold motifs, I really wish that this set was a little brighter to reflect the retro-colorway of Barbara’s costume. At the very least, the packaging makes me hopeful for sets of Harley Quinn and Catwoman nails in the near future :D

GillyPerkyGoth designed this retro Batgirl-inspired one-piece as a part of her series of Superhero Swimsuits sketches. The Bat-symbol on the bodice and the belt detailing are simple, yet effective, and the suit itself is a classic, flattering fit.
I think I may actually end my dreadful swimsuit search by appliquéing a bat on a cute yellow swimsuit now :D
