  • an actual cosplay photographer cosplaying as Todd Snap
  • Maria Hill, singing Robin Sparkles songs
  • Brave and the Bold Batman, complete with the neon-talking Super-Street Bat-Luge
  • Inspector Spacetime & Constable Reggie (bonus points: Constable Geneva)
  • Ben Wyatt as Batman (bonus points: calzone-shaped Batarangs)

GET ON IT PEOPLE.

Note: I may or may not add more costumes to this list at a later date.

I would be over the moon if I ran into anyone on this list.

Any of these costumes will instantly grant the cosplayer a spot on ComicsAlliance’s Best Cosplay Ever (duh doy!).

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 04.16.12
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Bleez, Lumpy Space Princess, Frieza, Green Goblin (above), and more!

Convention Report: Anime Boston 2011

A quick recap of Anime Boston 2011!

As the largest convention in the New England area, Anime Boston has been a convention that I’ve attended almost every year since 2005, making this year my sixth Anime Boston. I must admit that aside from a handful of anime and manga series, I wouldn’t exactly consider myself as much of a fanatic as the average AB attendee, but I usually end up having a lot of fun at Anime Boston, and despite mucky weather and exhaustion, this year was no exception.

Me, with my gorgeous friends in Human Sushi, cosplaying Magic Knight Rayearth.

I wasn’t planning to show up on Friday until after work, but luckily, we were let out early, so I beelined over to the Hynes Convention Center. I immediately tracked down my friends of the award-winning cosplay group, Human Sushi, since they are almost always bombarded by photographers. This year, they knocked everyone dead with their gorgeous Magic Knight Rayearth costumes, and won two awards in the Masquerade, and I am ridiculously proud of them. And for those of you who are going to Boston Comic Con this weekend, you may recognize the Hikaru cosplayer (in pink) as none other than featured artist Sara Richard :)

I made my way over to Artist Alley to pick up this cute Batgirl & Robin print from iamacoyfish, and visited some of my other friends at their respective booths. For AB attendees who are also comics fans, I highly recommend hitting up Artist Alley (which I’ll admit that I didn’t visit until last year’s Anime Boston) for a great selection of fan art. Likewise, I met an adorable Question cosplayer at one of the booths, and I ran into Karen and Mona (who was rocking a stellar Donna Troy getup!) in Artist Alley on Saturday! AW YEAH DC NERD PARTY!

Unfortunately, I was incredibly exhausted on Saturday and didn’t make it to the convention until mid-afternoon, so I apologize if I seemed a bit out of it this past weekend. In turn, my late arrival meant that I ended up missing the DC Comics photo shoot, running into a few of my friends, and all the panels that I planned to go to, but such is life. Regardless, I still had a lot of fun wandering around and seeing most of my friends in costume (fact: at one point, a bunch of my friends were wearing Pikachu/Raichu kigurumis, and it was pretty much the cutest thing ever). Anyway, onto my favorite cosplay of the weekend!

Rosalie as Envy Adams [Scott Pilgrim]

Nikki as Morrigan [Darkstalkers]

Monarch henchgirl - so cute!

Vicky as Bellossom [Pokémon] :D

The best Captain Hammer I’ve ever seen, mostly because he has ♪ FOUR SWEATER VESTS ♫.

A gorgeous Black Widow.

Klaus Nomi cosplay FTW.

Not cosplay, but Sam and Eric (the boys of Damage -> MP) always look swag as fuck.

As for Sunday, we all just relaxed, did some last minute shopping (my bounty can be seen over HERE), and celebrated the end of Anime Boston 2011 with a much-deserved treat at Pinkberry :)

Convention Report: PAX East 2011

This is a little bit overdue, but here’s a brief recap of my adventures at PAX East 2011 a few weekends ago!

With AK and Jake, Kyna and DM, and the Boyfriend Wonder in tow, we ended up going on a super-nerdy triple-date to our first video game convention. The convention took place at the gorgeous Boston Convention and Exhibition Center this year (after squeezing itself into the Hynes Convention Center in 2010). Unfortunately, despite the abundant amount of space, the floor plan of the primary exhibition room seemed much smaller than I expected and poorly laid out; within an hour or so, we were able to comb through the entire exhibition hall in one go. Likewise, because of the scale of the convention (and the vast amount of vacant space in the exhibition hall), I also expected more dealer booths and merch tables.

We tested out a few demos and watched a couple of walk-throughs (most notably, Portal 2 and L.A. Noire). I also tested out DoA and Lego Star Wars on the Nintendo 3DS; while the graphics looked pretty, it was a tad bit dizzying to adjust to at first. As for the rest of the convention, we spent a good portion of our time in the Classic Arcade room (courtesy of Funspot), playing Donkey Kong and Quantum.

Although the cosplay population was significantly slimmer than your average comic convention, I still spotted a few notable costumes. My friends of Arkham’s Finest dressed up as The Joker, Arkham City Harley Quinn, and Arkham Asylum Poison Ivy. I also ran into this fantastic Rule 63 Mega Man and Proto Man duo (above); too cute!

As for me, I obliged to AK’s request that I wear my Snorlax dress on Day 2… only to realize that it’s the anniversary of when I debuted my Snorlax dress last year. Huh.

Other highlights:

Harley’s “PICHUN”/Pokemon knock-off sweatshirt = WANT.
For serious - that little critter looks cuter than most of the newer generations of Pokemon. Plus, it’s also wearing a bow, so therefore: ♥
