Black Bat & The Spoiler, cosplayed by Betty Felon & Ali Kay
[Boston Comic Con 2012]

At Boston Comic Con, Nate Buchman pulled us aside from the sweltering exhibit hall to do a photoshoot in the more secluded areas of the convention center. AK and I have been wanting to cosplay Cass and Steph for a while now, and I’m still in awe that we were able to pull these costumes together before AK moved across the country. We had a great time bringing our favorite BFFs of the former DCU to life, running around the convention with our capes catching the wind.

We plan on bringing Black Bat & The Spoiler to SDCC (after a few upgrades to our costumes), so look out for us in San Diego this Summer!

Note: A super big thank you to Alex & Juli of Twin Bee, for helping us out with Black Bat’s suit and The Spoiler’s hood ♡ Aside from the boots, the rest of the costume pieces were created by me & AK.

Stephanie Brown Spoiler/Robin redesign, by Dean Trippe [tumblr]
So this Spoiler/Robin hybrid redesign basically captures my favorite aspects of the classic Robin costume (the torso laces, emblem, belt design) and the Spoiler costume (the hooded cape and colorway). Like Dean’s Girl Wonder redesign, this looks more wearable than both the original Robin costume and the Spoiler costume, as it provides more coverage on the legs, and a Robin domino mask instead of a full black Spoiler mask. The lavender-toned silver used for the cape and belt pull the entire look together, and fully transforms the costume into one that’s only meant for Stephanie Brown.
Also, I adore her purple lipstick.

-Flakes has been creating some wonderful Secret Six and other DC character inspired fashion looks.  (You should check them our they’re awesome!)  Last night while in a hypnotic trance from hours of re-building my website I decided to have a tinker with Looklet myself.
I bring you Batgirl (Stephanie Brown), Supergirl, Batwoman (Kate Kane), Powergirl, Black Canary and Zatanna.  (I couldn’t resist giving Peej a boob window and I think it looks awesome.)  I love fashion and I love comics and I hope when I become a full-time comic penciller that I can use some of that to make my characters interesting.  You guys have seen me rant about this before I’m sick of reading comics and every character, even the women are wearing the same plain coloured shirt and generic pants combo.  There is so much variety artists would be playing around with!  People use their clothes as extension of themselves, it’s there way of showing off who they are using fabric and accessories.  By taking the time on a character’s outfit even out of costume in a comic you’re helping show who they see themselves as without words.
I can see Looklet becoming a fun and useful resource for myself in the future when I need to be inspired.

I haven’t played around with this yet, but this already looks more fun than Polyvore. I’d love to see any of your superhero/-villain inspired Looklet sets, so feel free to send them over - I’d love to compile my favorites into a post by the end of the week :)
