SHOES OF PREY: COMICS ALLIANCE DESIGNS SUPERHERO FOOTWEAR BASED ON WONDER WOMAN, CAPTAIN MARVEL, BATWOMAN AND MORE
By Betty Felon
Fashion brand Shoes of Prey used its customizable design website to style some superhero-inspired heels and flats as examples of footwear that customers can tweak and purchase for themselves with the Shoes of Prey 3D Designer, which gives the wearer selection of colors, materials, and alter various detailing parameters such as heel height, toe and heel detailing.. Each pair of shoes is handmade to fit the customer’s chosen aesthetics and run at least $100 per pair.
As a fan of both Shoes of Prey and comics, customer Mandy Kerr designed some heels and flats inspired by Batman, Iron Man, and more (seen in the grahguc below). Inspired by Kerr’s excellent Robin-inspired oxfords, I utilized the Shoes of Prey 3D Designer to create a few of my own shoe designs, including flats and platformed wedges inspired by Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Batwoman, and more.

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week): Dark Knight Returns, Mass Effect, BioShock, and More
By Betty Felon

Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving communities of costuming that exist, such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. Over the years, the cosplay community has evolved into a creative outlet for many fans to establish and showcase some impressive feats of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics at conventions. In honor of the caped crusaders of the convention scene, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), an ongoing collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into a super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

NYCC 2011 - Saturday : the Boyfriend Wonder & I as Aquaman & Mera!

I’ll post a full convention wrap-up of New York Comic Con in the near future, but for now, here are some of my favorite shots of our OUTRAGEOUS cosplay as Aquaman and Mera :) I redesigned Mera’s classic costume into a halter dress, and created my dress, crown, and Aquaman’s shirt. I made my Mera earrings from custom-ordered gold mirrored acrylic pieces that I attached to earring posts, while I used the Wonder Woman cuff set that I got from H&M as my bracelets. After a failed attempt to make boot covers out of a white spandex that was just slightly too sheer, I ended up wearing a pair of gold shoes that I got from Forever 21 last Winter. As for our tridents, Andrew found them at a costume shop, which he painted gold.

On a side note, my goal next year (or before I wear this costume again) is to make the white boots that I originally designed to wear with this dress, and to perfect the art of balancing big hair and disco collars.

Spotted at Forever 21: Pleated Colorblock Dress, $24.80.

TOTES AQUAMAN, Y’ALL.

Complete the look with a gold scale belt, a pair of shell studs, and set your updo with golden trident hair sticks. Classy has never looked this OUTRAGEOUS before.

Take a Splash This Summer with Splish’s Super-Swimwear!

Given how many of comic’s most iconic heroes and villains regularly sport spandex leotards, it’s actually quite surprising that the selection of comics-inspired swimwear is rather limited. Perhaps in heroic response to this serious problem, Splish created a collection of swimwear with a splash of superheroic designs to save the day! Decked out in bold colors, stars, and lightning bolts, these super-swimsuits (which are also available as bikinis and mens’ swim briefs) are bound to catch the eye of fellow civilians at the pool or beach. Just remember to leave the capes at home!

On a personal note, I kind of need to own that Aquaman swimsuit NOW.
