RedBubble’s New York Comic Con Design Challenge!

RedBubble, one of my favorite t-shirt sites, is holding a design contest for New York Comic Con in October! The winning design will feature an original comic-inspired superhero or villain created by the designer, and will be available on a limited edition exclusive RedBubble t-shirt at NYCC!

The Challenge:

“Fancy having your own design featured at New York Comic Con? Of course you do, so you need to get your concentration hat on and read these words:

Your task is to create your very own, highly original, comic book character. Superhero or villain. Splendidly powerful, embarrassingly weak, or just quite good at chess. Give them skills you’ve always wanted or defects you’ve always dreaded. Give them a snappy name and stick them on a t-shirt.

What would your character wear? What’s their calling card, weaponry or gadgetry? What’s their story? What are they fighting for or against? It’s up to you to answer these questions.

We’ll then whip the winning design into a limited edition, official RedBubble/NYCC 2011 t-shirt to be featured, praised, discussed and given to hundreds of adoring comic fans in New York this October.”

Wonder Woman Earrings Contest Winners!

Despite the fact that all of the winners have already been contacted over a week ago and should be receiving their Wonder Woman earrings shortly, I’ve gotten a bunch of inquiries asking if the winners were picked… so here’s my proper (and belated) contest winner announcement for the Wonder Woman earrings contest!

Today marks the 365th OVC cartoon and to commemorate this occasion, I am announcing the first Our Valued Customers contest! So here’s the deal: Email me your submission of the strangest thing you have heard in your local comic shop, video game store, Magic tournament (etc.) along with a loose description of what the speaker looked like and I will draw the top 5 submissions and run them next week on the site crediting YOU as the writer! Although this doesn’t quite have much to do about fashion in comics per se, Our Valued Customers is one of my favorite webcomics at the moment. OVC documents the bizarre (yet true) utterances of patrons at a comic shop, overheard by artist/author MR TIM during his work hours.
