Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 11.21.11
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Professor Pyg, Black Widow, Khal Drogo, Damian Wayne (above), and more!

Damian Wayne, rocking a cat sweater (inspiration), by vi-jyna.
Truth be told, I own not one, but two dresses that feature cat motifs; every time I wear them, I can’t help but think of Damian Wayne.

So grab your domino masks and pixie boots and get ready take photos and Batusi with us!Invite your friends!! All other incarnations of Robin (i.e. Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood, Stephanie Brown’s Batgirl costume, etc) are absolutely welcome to the meet-up/photoshoot :D And for those who are dressed as non-Robins or in civvies, feel free to swing by and say hi!The exact location and meetup time is still tentative until the exhibit hall floor plan and panel schedule is released, but I’ll keep you all updated - just remember: same bat-time, same bat-channel!

For those of you looking for a little bit of styling inspiration, comic creator/artist Chris Graves recently sketched up a quick lookbook featuring eight adorable superhero-inspired outfits.

“I was pretty dronkxorz a few nights ago but it helped my productivity a bit. So I roughed out some ideas for outfits with Betty in mind. But really, everybody should dress more superhero-themed.
I think the Nightwing and Madman dresses are my fave. Also the Damian Robin =D”
- Chris Graves

I adore all of these so much that I felt compelled to comment on every single ensemble.
Classic Robin: I really love the use of a sweater in this ensemble; it reminds me a lot of the sweaters that Dick Grayson used to wear early on (as seen on Burt Ward in the ‘60’s Batman series). I think I personally would’ve opted for layering the sweater over a yellow peter pan collared shirt instead of wearing the yellow scarf, to complete the retro ensemble.
Nightwing: Truth be told, I’ve been wanting to make a Nightwing bodycon dress exactly like this for years now. After seeing Chris’ rendition, I think it’s time.
Batman: I like how this matches the classic Robin coordinate perfectly. Since a fair portion of my wardrobe is comprised of black and greys, I’m surprised that I don’t own this outfit already. On a side note, I really need to track down a Batman sweater.
Damian Wayne/Robin: I love the use of the hooded scarf for the Damian Wayne Robin ensemble - you could also use a circle scarf (like this one from American Apparel) for a similar makeshift hood.
Stephanie Brown/Batgirl: This coordinate only reminds me of how I’m in dire need of more purple eggplant-colored items in my wardrobe, especially in regards to how stellar eggplant and yellow look together.
Huntress: I really love this design as a bodycon dress (note: phew, no belly hole!). I think I would’ve opted to go without the utility belt, since it interferes with the bold design of the dress itself.
Miss Martian: I feel like this would be a cute civilian disguise for M’gann. So cute.
Madman: My favorite of the bunch. I’ve been wanting a Madman shirt forever to create a similar ensemble, but this is just perfection. The tights (in a gorgeous shade of Frank Einstein blue) look so crisp against the white dress and black boots. Okay, that’s it - I’m making this ensemble ASAP (complete with a yo-yo-shaped purse!).
Conclusively, Chris Graves is the ginchiest - I can’t wait to see more of your redesigns :D

So at first glance, I totally thought they were all wearing mask-shaped bows.
Note to self: Make some mask-shaped bows/hairclips ♥
