Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 10.08.12
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Maria Hill, Beta Ray Bill, Robin, Phoenix & Emma Frost (above), and more!

mckelvie:

Emma Frost | The White Queen.
A quick design, but the thinking behind it was: if she’s called The White Queen, why shouldn’t her costume be connected to that? With that in mind, I looked up a couple of Elizabethan outfits and went from there, while trying to keep it true to her origins as a member of the Hellfire Club.

A beautiful Elizabethan-inspired Emma Frost redesign by Jamie McKelvie.
Side note: My wardrobe is severely lacking an X-Men pendant on a string of pearls.

Emma Frost 80’s shirt, by We Love Fine, $25
We Love Fine just released a new version of a Patrick Nagel-esque Emma Frost design (the original can be seen here), and it’s quite lovely. Emma’s clearly perfected the delicate art of looking glamorous whilst giving everyone the cold shoulder.

Marvel goes mod at Dragon*Con!

I’m a total sucker for mod fashon (especially when mixed with a healthy dose of comic books), so I kind of freaked out when I came across this Mod Marvel group. These talented ladies gave some of Marvel’s finest a mod makeover at Dragon*Con, creating some incredibly cute and wearable looks!

“Emma Frost Inspired Look” by ALB

Lids are first covered with Kryolan’s Aquacolor in White, applied with a damp brush. Pat Lancome’s Color Design Shadow in Personal Style all over lids. Blend Lise Watier’s Les Peacock Shadow [the lightest blue of the quad] into outer corner.  Sugarpill’s Lumi is used as a brow and inner eye corner highlight.  Blend well.
Apply NYC liquid liner, and mascara is then applied using Rimmel Sexy Curves. Let lashes dry and curl them, applying false lashes of your choice.
Apply Step 1 of Maybelline’s XXL Curl Power Mascara to bottom lashes until they are an opaque white, then quickly dab Wet ‘N’ Wild’s MegaSparkle Confetti loose glitter onto bottom lashes.
Lipstick is Lady Gaga Viva Glam (2).

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - X-Men: First Class

Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today. Between the cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum, the flurry of “photo parades” that accompany virtually every comics or genre convention article, and the countless galleries provided by cosplayers and cosplay photographers alike, we are bound to encounter real-life interpretations of our favorite heroes and villains. With the release of X-Men: First Class this Friday (June 3rd), let’s launch our first Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) with the X-Men!

Super Skivvies Sunday: Marvel Ladies Pajama Sets

Ladies can now transform into a handful of Marvel ladies through skimpy camisole pajama sets, which are currently available at Spencer’s for $24.99 each.

Although I’m usually a sucker for trompe-l’œil graphics (especially superhero costume shirts), these sets are less than Marvel-ous; while the concept is cute, all of these look cheap and poorly executed. Unlike most hero costume shirts, all of these camisoles feature tiny printed waistlines, which vaguely reminds me of those novelty bikini shirts (which I could’ve sworn was a staple item at Spencer’s, but I digress).
