ComicsAlliance Demos Converse’s Customizable DC Comics Sneakers [link]

As the latest installment in the DC Comics x Converse collection, Converse launched today its Design Your Own DC Comics Chuck Taylor All Star shoes campaign, featuring mix-and-match custom shoe design options that include Batman, The Joker, Catwoman, and The Riddler. This exclusive feature allows the customer to design their own shoe by offering a selection of customizable parameters, including the color/print of the canvas, emblems, rubber soles, lining, and even a personalized heel strip.

Converse offered me the opportunity to demo the entire Design Your Own DC Comics Chuck Taylor All Stars process early, and I tweaked every single design parameter to utter purrfection. Check out my review of the product and process and the un-boxing photos of my combative kicks on ComicsAlliance!

DC Comics x Converse Unveils Wonder Woman & Killer Croc Kicks [link]

As the latest additions to the DC Comics x Converse collaboration, Chuck Taylor All Star kicks featuring Wonder Woman and Killer Croc designs are now exclusively available at Journeys. The collection has greatly expanded since its launch in Fall 2010, with limited edition footwear featuring a variety of DC’s finest heroes and villains including Batman, Superman, Two-Face, Catwoman, and more. The collections includes low-tops and high-tops, and footwear available in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes.

Chuck Taylor DC Comics - Batmobile (Kids 1-3 yr), $37, Converse Although the current DC Comics x Converse catalog is pretty sweet, none of the designs have really made me rush out to purchase a pair of kicks; partially because I seldom wear sneakers, and primarily because when I do, I already own a pair of vintage Batman x Converse hi-tops. That said, it appears that I’ve finally encountered the only exception: if these Batmobile Chucks were available in adult sizes, I would stock up on a few backup pairs and wear them EVERY FUCKING DAY. Get on it, Converse.

Bat-Manolo, by Erica Henderson Despite the fact that Manolo Blahniks would probably be my last shoe of choice when it comes for combat, Bats’ gams look undeniably fabulous in those Bat-heels. Just one of the many amazing Bat-pun sketch cards that Erica submitted for the Dark Knight on a Dark Night gallery at Hub Comics. So I received these wonderful vintage bat shoes in the mail this past weekend, however I may end up returning them. Although the shoes are technically brand new and didn’t display any signs of wear, the patent coating (note: they’re not real leather) started cracking and flaking off (presumably due to aging) within minutes of trying them on. Do any of you have any DIY/shoe repair tips on how to salvage my shoes or should I just return them? :-/

André x Catwoman collaboration:

  • The Cat - kitten heel with whiskered purple heels
  • Gotham - green ballet flat
  • Catwoman - black ballet flat with kitty face detailing (!)
  • Selina Kyle - black suede boots with patent leather trim (a sleek, black version of the André x Wonder Woman boots)

I believe an impromptu trip to France is in order…
