LOOKBOOK

30 December 11
goth loli wonder woman, by Katie Skelly.
This lolita interpretation of Wonder Woman is both whimsy and surreal; there is a striking balance between adorable and creepy in this look, quite similar to Junko Mizuno’s work. While I can’t imagine Diana ever wearing this ensemble herself (or any lolita redesign of the classic Wondy costume, per se), I really love the combination of Wonder Woman’s signature costume with lolita fashion. Although this bold color combo deviates from the primary color wheel of the standard lolita wardrobe, it actually works with the frilly detailing (particularly, the golden yellow trim on the blouse and the star-spangled layered skirt) to create a statement ensemble that’s audaciously cute.
The ensemble is topped off with the scalloped tiara headband and the golden satin ribbon of truth, punctuating this outfit with a clever translation of Wonder Woman’s key weapons as lolita accessories.
