Complete NYCC 2010 photo set HERE :D
New York Comic Con 2010 was absolutely stellar!
I arrived in NYC on Thursday night, and hit up the Comics Alliance/Dark Horse party with Kim/malpertuis, Niki/louplorange, & co. and met up with Lindsey/interweber and the Comics Alliance crew [note: Chris Sims reenacted the “I like your bow.” pick-up line IRL] :D All in all, a fun time and a great way to de-stress before the convention.
Since I didn’t get to complete my planned costume for Day 2, I ended up modifying my classic Star Sapphire from SDCC to wear on Friday and Saturday instead. I made a new tiara, fixed up the gloves, purchased better nylons, and created a pair of matching pink boot covers to go over my pumps [which proved to be much more comfortable than my hot pink patent go-go boots that I wore in San Diego]. Likewise, the Green Lantern costume that I made for Andrew ended up fitting quite well, so I had a Hal Jordan to walk around with on Day 1 ♥ Likewise, we had Jasmine/jasminemichele in tow with us, who was experiencing her very first comic convention. I also got to hang out with J’ai for a little bit; she used my extra badge to attend for the day… and subsequently got connections to tokidoki O_O. I also ran into many of my artist/writer friends throughout the weekend and mad hugz happened.
While we were in Artist Alley, Stephane Roux saw me and beckoned me to his table so that he could show me a gorgeous sketch he did of the classic Star Sapphire costume :D He then asked if I could take a photo with his Zatanna-cosplaying companion ♥
After the con, we hit up the Geek Girls x Kirby Krackle party for a little bit, which was totally awesome. I also finally met Eugene/Adam Warrock, who was just the ginchiest. And most of us were simply stunned by the dancing Delirium cosplayer with the pasties o_o
My date for Day 2 however was Larfleeze. Despite a couple of wardrobe malfunctions on Andrew’s costume, Larfleeze was a pretty big success! The major highlight of the day was when Larfleeze totally stole the show at the Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors panel. Likewise, in response to a fan who expressed concern over the impracticality of the current Star Sapphire costume and wondered if there would be a potential re-design of the costume, the panelists asked me to stand up and show off my costume and noted that the classic costume looked pretty practical. I’m not sure if this means that there will be a definite redesign in the future [or if the classic costume will be rebooted], but I’ve always favored the classic costume over the later incarnations of Star Sapphire [clearly], so it was nice that the artists/writers of Green Lantern acknowledged the appeal of the classic costume as well :)
On Day 3, I headed over to the convention at around 8:30 am to get my hair and makeup done for the NYAF fashion show [where I was modeling for my friends, Twin Bee!]. The show ran late, but it was all a good time, and I loved seeing all of the collections in the show. After the show, we had a Twin Bee photoshoot and then I changed into civvies and headed back to the convention floor for some last-minute shopping. Before the show ended, I met up with Lauren/laurenmoran [as Black Canary!] again for a photo :D And then I spent the last couple minutes of the show gushing over Cliff Chiang’s prints with Andrew.
I know that I’m missing a ton of other side notes, but I really had a wonderful time with all of my friends, and I already can’t wait for NYCC 2011! But for now, I have to get ready for New England Comic Con in 3 days [note: I’m only going on Saturday], and then I’m done with the big conventions until next Spring… and yes, of course I’m already planning out my costumes for 2011 now ;D
