Marvel Comics Fantastic Cosmetics Set, $6.98, Toys R Us

I picked this up a couple weekends ago at Toys R Us, primarily for the packaging. I haven’t tried out any of the makeup yet, but the quality seems like that of standard novelty/tween cosmetics.

Tutorial: Lois Lane Inspired Look
By Jessiawesome

To celebrate the opening weekend of Man of Steel out in theaters, what’s more fitting than doing a tutorial on the leading lady, Lois Lane? After doing a little investigating myself and studying movie stills, Lois’ makeup is super simple. After all, this is the Daily Planet’s star reporter - I can’t imagine the first thing she thinks of in the morning is how to paint her face. She uses a soft neutral palette that compliments her eyes, but is so easy that it takes minutes to apply.

  1. Apply an eye primer. Take a neutral cream and pat it in the inner corners, sweeping it towards the middle of the lid.
  2. Use a medium matte grey-purple to blend into the cream color from the middle of the eye to the outer corner. Apply on crease & lower lash line as well.
  3. With a darker purple, apply on outer V and crease. You may also use this color to line the upper lash line for more dimension and definition.
  4. Add cream shade as brow highlight.
  5. Apply your favorite mascara, a peachy pink blush and a pale pink gloss & you’re set! Now go out there and break a scandal!

Cosmetics used in this look:
Primer: Painterly (MAC)
Eyes: Les 4 Ombres in Kaska Beige (Chanel)
Face: Mineralize Skin Finish in Pink Power (MAC x Wonder Woman)
Lips: Sundress lipgloss (Chanel)

Tutorial: Iron Man Inspired Look
By Jessiawesome

I fell in love with the champagne and burgundy paint job of Tony’s latest suit, Mark XLVII in Iron Man 3. The sleekness and beauty of that armor proves when you roll with Stark Industries, it’s class all the way.

How could I translate those beautiful colors into a wearable look?
Reds in cosmetics can often look costume-y and juvenile if not applied with a light touch, so I opted to go with cranberry (red’s refined cousin) for this look. Light brown calms and complements the red undertones and adds a nice bit of dimension to this evening smokey eye.

  1. Apply your primer and apply a champagne color from the inner corner to the middle of your eyelid.
  2. Apply a gold shade to the middle of your eye, blending outward to the outer corner of your eyelid.
  3. Add a light brown to your crease to add warmth, and add cranberry to the outer V, being sure to blend into the crease.
  4. You can opt to stop at step three for a subtle daytime look, however, you can transform this into a smokey eye look. Add a brown-plum to your upper lash line as a liner and then blend on top of the cranberry. Apply this color to your lower lash line and smudge.
  5. If you want to transform this eye into a sexy evening look fit for cocktail parties, accentuate the cranberry with a burgundy glitter.
  6. Highlight your brows with a lustre taupe and blend toward the crease color.
  7. Add mascara and accent the cheeks with a warm, peach-toned blush. Finish the look with a nude lip color topped with a lipgloss with gold flecks.

Cosmetics used in this look
Primer: Painterly (MAC)
Eyes: Retro-Speck (MAC), Amber Lights (MAC), Wedge (MAC), Cranberry (MAC), Velvet Plum (Bobbi Brown), Reflects Blackened Red (MAC), Honesty (MAC), Doll Lash Mascara (Lancôme)
Face: Warm Soul (MAC)
Lips: Creme D’Nude (MAC), Lipgloss 141 (Chanel)

Funny story: I used to be a makeup artist for a living. I went to school and worked for MAC for close to a year. I get a lot of questions about how I wear lipstick, so here’s a little doodle answer. Kisses!

A great tutorial on how to apply red lipstick, courtesy of the lovely Kate Leth.
P.S. Kate, you should totes illustrate more makeup tutorials.

MAC Cosmetics’ Unveils Betty & Veronica Collection Based on the Archie Icons

MAC Cosmetics will be launching their Archie Comics collection just in time for Valentine’s Day, featuring makeup products inspired by Riverdale’s own Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. Known for their critically acclaimed beauty products and collaborations with pop culture icons (including Hello Kitty, Barbie, and Wonder Woman), MAC Cosmetics’ Archie Comics products will feature exclusive new shades and special edition accessories. However, the most unique feature of this collection is that the products are evenly split (like Archie’s heart) to suit either the Girl-Next-Door (sweet candy shades of pink and peach) or the Sophisticated Fashionista (deep vixen tones of red and purple).

Check out the entire collection on ComicsAlliance!

Marvel and Benefit Cosmetics’ ‘SpyGal’ Sports Gorgeous Phil Noto Artwork [link]

Benefit Cosmetics is combining forces with Marvel Comics to launch a comic book inspired by Benefit’s beauty products, entitled SpyGal. Marvel assembled the team of acclaimed writer James Asmus (Uncanny X-Men, Captain America) and masterful artist Phil Noto (Batgirl, X-23) to bring SpyGal to life in this beautiful limited edition release, which will be available on Benefit Cosmetics makeup counters everywhere this month.

Obviously we’re big Phil Noto fans around here, so Marvel was kind enough to hook us up with some high resolution versions of the SpyGal promo material that was distributed last week. Check out more shots of the SpyGal comic on ComicsAlliance!
