Cosplay That I Hope To See This Year

bettyfelon:

  • drag queen interpretations of Adventure Time (servin’ mathematical REALNESS)
  • an actual cosplay photographer cosplaying as Todd Snap
  • Maria Hill, singing Robin Sparkles songs
  • Brave and the Bold Batman, complete with the neon-talking Super-Street Bat-Luge
  • Inspector Spacetime & Constable Reggie (bonus points: Constable Geneva)
  • Ben Wyatt as Batman (bonus points: calzone-shaped Batarangs)
  • Girly Mags Scientist
  • ‘60’s Spider-Man, showing off all the fucks he doesn’t give
  • Big Barda, rocking her bunny slippers
  • “In The Garage” cosplay group: Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss, and Rivers Cuomo dressed up as a Dungeon Master

GET ON IT PEOPLE.

Note: I may or may not add more costumes to this list at a later date.

I would be over the moon if I ran into anyone on this list.

Any of these costumes will instantly grant the cosplayer a spot on ComicsAlliance’s Best Cosplay Ever (duh doy!).

stephbuscema:

A Batgirl painting I reworked last night.

Stephanie Buscema reworked the Beat Girl Babs redesign that I posted a couple weeks ago, and somehow managed to make Babs even cuter! The lace-up boots in the original painting were switched out for a pair of yellow boots with bow detailing (hello, dream boots!), and the entire outfit is trimmed with an adorable scalloped hem.
On a side note, I really need that green Bat-argyle wallpaper in my bedroom.

Beat Girl Babs, by Stephanie Buscema.
This Barbara Gordon piece features a few of my favorite fashion staples: a cute dress, a peter pan collared capelet, my preferred incarnation of the Bat-symbol, a patent yellow belt, lace-up boots, and a matching record player (of course!). Basically, the perfect ensemble for Batusi-ing the night away~
P.S. For those of you who are attending Boston Comic Con in April, be sure to swing by Stephanie Buscema’s table, where she will have prints of this piece (and a selection of other beautiful artwork) for sale!

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 10.31.11
Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.
Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring Nova, Livewire, Dale Gribble, Steampunk Daft Punk (above), and more!

Don’t Give A Damn ‘Bout My Bad Reputation, by Cliff Chiang.
Known for his remixes of comics and album cover art, Cliff Chiang created this stunning Runaways-inspired piece starring Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Zatanna, and Batgirl. I would absolutely kill to see DC’s finest perform “Cherry Bomb.” HELLO WORLD, I’M YOUR WONDER GIRL!
What Cliff had to say about this piece:

Inspired by a late-night viewing of The Runaways, and partly an exercise to see if I could make star-spangled pants and Wonder Woman go together. The idea started with Wonder Woman  (I briefly entertained using an Ian Curtis Batman) but the idea of an all-girl rock band with Black Canary, Zatanna and Batgirl seemed too good to pass up.

Wonder Woman (as Joan Jett): This is one of the few instances where the star-spangled pants actually work; the dark-washed skinny pants look more wearable than the blue star-studded jeggings. The rest of the outfit is the perfect casual rock translation of Wonder Woman’s outfit without appearing too costume-y. Finally, I love how the golden lasso is her amp cord - it reminds me of how Annie Wu transformed Wondy’s lasso into a golden microphone in her Malcolm McLaren Justice League redesign.
Black Canary (as Cherie Currie): Since Currie’s stage-wear often consisted of teddies, bustiers, big black boots and fishnets, it’s just fitting that Dinah would rock the mic with her Canary Cry.
Zatanna (as one of The Runaways many bassists): OLLEH HSALS! It figures that one of the greatest guitarists of all time must’ve been dabbling in magic.
Batgirl (as Sandy West): I love how her KISS-esque makeup acts as her Bat-mask, allowing Barbara’s signature red locks to pump up the volume now that it’s not trapped in a cowl. Also, I bet Nightwing would be totes jealz of that silver collar!
Side note: I propose that all of the DC reboots in September consist of Cliff Chiang restyling all of my favorite superheroes as all of my favorite bands. Get on it, DC Comics.
