radiomaru:

hey while i’m on the subject of cosplay and outfits, here’s the original reference pieces i used for Ramona in the end of book 6!

dress: opening ceremony
jacket: joyrich
boots: zanotti

in real life this outfit would cost $2000+ but in comics world it’s FREE~

When it comes to fashion, Bryan Lee O’Malley knows his shit.

For comparison, here’s Ramona Flowers’ ensemble from Scott PIlgrim’s Finest Hour:

Captain America jacket, $395, by Volante Designs

Volante Design (who previously designed this awesome Wolverine jacket) just produced this prototype based on his Captain America jacket design (as seen on the bottom right). The fusion of military design elements with the structure of a motorcycle jacket perfectly complements the trompe-l’œil underbust corset comprised of the red and white stripes. The jacket is fully lined, custom made to measurement, and has three pockets (including one inner pocket and two outer pockets).

For those of you interested in owning your own custom-made Captain America Jacket, feel free to send inquiries to info[at]enzovolante[dot]com.

Barbara Gordon’s blue coat kind of reminds me of this baby blue peacoat from Miu Miu:

I’m not quite sure if I would’ve coordinated this coat with a matching winter cap and ankle boots, but I do love how the dark grey gloves look with this color.

WHO WORE IT BETTER : Gwen Stacy vs. Mamoru Chiba [aka Tuxedo Mask]?
As it turns out, one of my first fictional crushes totes raided Gwen Stacy’s closet.
While the pop culture analyst in me would love to believe that Naoko Takeuchi made a strategic/symbolic choice to stylize Darien’s* signature civvies after Gwen Stacy’s most famous outfit (especially in terms of his role within the context of a group of superheroines) I’m pretty definite that this was just a mere coincidence.
Regardless, they’re both iconic ensembles, and now that I own a basic black turtleneck, I’ve felt inclined to coordinate it with green and purple myself. :)
Side note: I originally explored this epiphany on Livejournal last Summer, but this was just too important not to share on Fashion Tips From Comic Strips.
* Yes, I insist on using the English dub names. With pride.

Lois & Clark, by Ming Doyle
See? It’s nice to see them in something a bit more high-fashioned, and even moreso, seeing Clark in a different style of civvies. I love how Ming played up their respective silhouettes by piling on a variety of layers, fabric prints, and textures, and makes sure to place a coffee in Lois’ hand and a messy pile of papers under Clark’s arm, so you know that they’re knocking them dead at the Daily Planet.
Also, Clark is totes wearing Chuck Taylors. Swoon.

That was totes a fashionable tongue twister.
And coats with large buttons = +5 EXP in ADORABLENESS.

Anddd we’re onto Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe!
I’m quite thrilled that this is the Ramona outfit that I’ve seen the most frequently cosplayed - it’s absolutely perfect! The color coordination, the combination of long and short layers, and BELTS! Also, I absolutely need a cropped grey jacket exactly like hers.

For those of you who are just tuning in, I will be going over the fashion highlights of the entire Scott Pilgrim series. So grab your wristbands and get ready for some epic fashion commentary!

Speaking of Roxie, I think that of all the characters, her character design and outfit translated the best from comic to film. The makeup and styling is absolutely impeccable; I love the ripped floral tights, and how her studded belts from the comic were in turn, transformed into a super-long studded belt whip in the movie.
I know that a lot of girls will be coveting the Subspace purse, but I personally want a working studded belt whip… though I did kind of create one for AK’s Roxie Richter costume for San Diego Comic Con, however we still have yet to test it out to see if it’s a suitable weapon for a half-ninja…
At the very least, it looked fashionably threatening.

Ramona: What’s with the “X”, anyway?
See? Even Scott picks up his fashion tips from comic strips :D
Outfit details:parka: unknown, except for the fact that Wallace’s coat is better.X-Men patch: Scott presumably made it himself, though you can get a similar patch here.
Now you too can pretend to be someone who pretends that he went to Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
